Goal Setting and Vision Board (Two Day Workshop) = September 11 & 18, 2023
Location: Nob Hill Soccer Park, Meeting Hall, 10200 Sunrise Strip, Sunrise FL
Times: 9:30AM – 11:00AM
Cost: $30.00 for BOTH days ($15 per day)
What to Bring: Students need to bring pencils/pens, colored pencils/markers, scissors, and glue sticks/glue. The remainder of the supplies will be provided.

Battle of the Books – Fall (Junior Edition) – September 11, 2023
Location: Nob Hill Soccer Park, Meeting Hall, 10200 Sunrise Strip, Sunrise FL
Time: 12:30PM – 2:30PM
Cost: $20.00 per student / maximum $35.00 per family
Description: Students will read the list of books below. At the Battle of the Books, students will be placed on teams of 4 or 5 students. In “Family Feud” style, teams will be asked a question about one of the books on their list. Together, the team will have 30 seconds to come up with the answer. The “captain” will reveal the team’s final answer. If the team gets it correct, they will receive points.
The questions can be about characters, setting, plot, conflict, theme, symbolism, and resolution of each novel. All students will receive certificates for their participation and the winning team will receive medals.
The goal of Battle of the Books is to teach students how to work together in a group for a common goal, expose them to award-winning pieces of literature, and encourage a high volume of reading.
Students will be allowed to request up to TWO names that they would like to be on a team with. We will do our best to honor ALL requests. If we can’t honor the request, parents will be notified.

Science Fair – November 3, 2023
Location: Nob Hill Soccer Park, Meeting Hall, 10200 Sunrise Strip, Sunrise FL
Time: 1:00PM – 4:00PM
Cost: $20.00 per single student project / $35.00 per family/group project (a group or family should consist of two, three, or four student researchers)
Ages: Open to All Ages – Individual and Family Projects Welcomed!
Description: We are so excited to announce that SFLHRC will be hosting its FIRST annual Science Fair! This will be an event promoting the emergence of scientific inquiry-based learning in South Florida.
All ages are invited to participate! Homeschoolers can present independent projects or a family project. (Please provide this information when registering so we can have an accurate table count!) Traditional homeschoolers, homeschoolers at microschools, virtual learning homeschoolers, and homeschooling pods are invited to participate!
All participating students will receive a certificate! Awards will be given for specific categories TBD.
Upon registration, all participants will receive a science fair guide to assist them; however, there are “no rules”.

Entrepreneur’s Fair/Handcrafter’s Fair – November 10, 2023

Description: Calling all crafters and entrepreneurs! Come to our LIVE Etsy shop! Purchase holiday gifts for your parents, siblings, friends at our handcrafter’s fair!

Scripps Spelling Bee – December 1, 2023
Location: Flamingo Hall Meeting Room, 12855 NW 8th Street, Sunrise
Times: 9:30AM – 11:30AM (Younger division) and 12:30PM – 3:00PM (Older division)
Ages: Younger division is for ages 6 – 11; Older division is for ages 8 – 13 (all participants must be in 8th grade or younger as if they were attending school).
Details: Additional information will be shared as soon as Scripps posts their announcements; registration will begin shortly afterwards. All students will receive certificates for participating. First place winners and runners up will receive medals. The older division winner will have an opportunity to move onto the next round and compete in the Miami Herald Spelling Bee.
Winter Extravaganza: Holidays around the World – December 4, 2023

Description: It is said that there are approximately 20 holidays from various cultures and religions that are celebrated between November and January! Join SFLHRC as we learn and celebrate other people!!!

Tween Dance – December 15, 2023

NOTE: We will host a TEEN dance later in Spring 2024 for ages 13-17. Dates TBA.
Details: Our tweens on the Dance Committee are hard at work making plans for this great event! There will be a theme, DJ, Photos and more! Be prepared to be amazed!

SFLHRC’s First Annual Homeschool Field Day – January 19, 2024

Description: Remember the “old fashioned” kinds of fun so many of us experienced growing up? We are bringing it back! Planned events include:
- Potato Sack Races!
- Suitcase Runs!
- Spoon and Egg Race!
- Three-legged Race!
- Tug of War!
- Hula Hoop Contest!
- Bean Bag Toss!
- Wheelbarrow Race!
- Sidewalk Chalk and Bubble Station!
- And the final event – a Water Balloon toss!
Please have kiddos dress in closed-toe shoes.
Don’t forget the essentials: sunscreen, hats, bug spray, umbrellas, LOTS and LOTS of water, etc.

Homeschoolers will be divided into age groups and will rotate through the events. You will be notified about your child’s group ahead of time, as we are hoping to have each group wear a different color shirt so that group members are easy to identify.

SFLHRC’s Second Annual Living Wax Museum – February 2, 2024
Location: Flamingo Hall Meeting Room, 12855 NW 8th Street, Sunrise
Times: 12:30PM setup, 1:00PM – 2:30PM museum open for guests, 2:30PM awards ceremony
Cost: $20 per participating student / maximum $35 per family / FREE for guests
Ages: ALL! (see below)
Description: Have you ever wished your child had a group of people to share their learning with?
Here is your chance – make your child’s research and learning come alive in a meaningful way!
Have them participate in SFHRC’s SECOND ANNUAL Living Wax Museum! Your child can choose to present as ANY “famous” or “infamous” person (living or not) that they can study and research at their appropriate level.
President. First Lady. Scientist. Politician. Musician. Artist. Actor/Actress. Activist. ANYONE they want!
Plan on having your child (or children) choose a figure, learn all about them, put together their projects, and practice their monologue between event registration and February 2, 2024.

SFLHRC’s Second Annual Geography Bees (USA & World) – March 15, 2024
Location: Flamingo Hall Meeting Room, 12855 NW 8th Street, Sunrise
Times: 9:30AM – 11:30AM (USA), 12:30PM – 3:00PM (World)
Cost: $20 per participating student / maximum $35 per family / FREE for guests
Ages: USA – Ages 7 – 11, World – Ages 10 – 15
Students may only participate in ONE of the two divisions.
Students will be provided with a book / two books to read and learn.
There will not be a list of questions in a study guide; however, the study guide will contain information on topics that COULD be asked during the geography bee.
Details about which books will be used as sources will be shared in September 2023.
All students participating will receive a certificate. First place and runner up will receive medals.

Details: Let’s Celebrate our Uniquenesses! SFLHRC’s Heritage Day is a great opportunity for our community of homeschoolers to not only learn about their individual heritages and backgrounds, but to share and educate others through information, traditions, clothing, food and/or a poster. All families will have a table to decorate, share information, etc., etc.

Details: Let’s Celebrate our children’s achievements together! Families and friends are invited to celebrate our elementary graduates, middle school graduates, and high school graduates.
Parents will provide SFLHRC with several photos that will be incorporated into a PowerPoint presentation, and they will also be invited up on stage to share some words with their graduate!
All participating 5th, 8th, and 12th graders will receive a recognition certificate from SFLHRC on their achievements.
