SFLHRC Learning Programs: Our Educational Approach
Lower Elementary Cohort | Ages 5–7
Our Lower Elementary cohort follows a Montessori-inspired, literature-rich approach designed to nurture the whole child. At SFLHRC, we prioritize curiosity, creativity, and a genuine love of learning while supporting our young learners’ social, emotional, and intellectual development. Through hands-on exploration and meaningful literature, learners build strong foundations in critical thinking and problem-solving within a warm, supportive environment.
Upper Elementary Cohort | Ages 8–11
The Upper Elementary cohort engages in a literature-rich, project-based, STEAM-infused learning model. Participants are immersed in inquiry, problem-solving, creative projects, and writing experiences that deepen understanding and foster intellectual growth. Instruction is highly individualized, honoring each child as a unique learner with distinct strengths, interests, and learning styles.
Lower Middle Cohort | Ages 10–12
Our Lower Middle Cohort program is thoughtfully designed to support the social-emotional needs of children in this age group, while addressing individualized academic goals. Learning is entirely project-based, with an emphasis on 21st-century skills, technology integration, and the arts. Learners participate in a block-style, multidisciplinary model where subjects are seamlessly integrated—eliminating homework, traditional testing, and unnecessary stress.
Upper Middle Cohort | Ages 12–14
The Upper Middle Cohort continues with a project-based, interdisciplinary approach while addressing the evolving social-emotional and academic needs of older learners. Instruction focuses on collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and real-world application through technology and the arts. As with all SFLHRC microschool programs, students experience a cohesive, block-style learning model with no homework, no tests, and no stress.
Upper HS-Level Cohort | Ages 14–18
Our Upper HS-Level Cohort is fully individualized and designed around each learner’s post-secondary goals. In partnership with parents and learners, we develop a personalized four-year academic plan that aligns with college admissions requirements or alternative pathways. Learning remains project-based and student-centered, fostering independence, responsibility, and purpose—without homework, high-stakes testing, or unnecessary pressure.
