Friday Activities

SFLHRC had its first event in July of 2022.

Since then, SFLHRC has offered homeschooling families across South Florida.

We get together on a weekly basis for field trips, seasonal events, academic events, academic competitions, teen events, special events, and more!

Over 95% of our events SELL OUT!  Register early to avoid disappointment!

What are our Friday Activities?

During the year, SFLHRC hosts a variety of field trips to enhance your child’s homeschooling experience.   Parents are EXPECTED to attend field trips with their child!

All field trips MUST be registered and paid for in advance.  Once you register, there are no refunds, exchanges, or substitutions.

On the registration page, you will find the ages and a description of the field trip.

Depending on the field trip, parents might need to register and pay for themselves.

During the competition, teams will be asked a questions about the books on their age group’s Battle of the Books list. Together, in “Family Feud” style, the team will have one minute to work together to produce the answer. The “captain” will reveal the team’s final answer. If the team gets it correct, they will receive points.

The questions can be about characters, setting, plot, conflict, theme, symbolism, resolution, literary elements, higher order thinking questions and comprehension questions on of each novel.

All students will receive certificates for their participation and the winning team will receive medals.

The goal of Battle of the Books is to teach students how to work together in a group for a common goal, expose them to award-winning pieces of literature, and encourage a high volume of reading.

Spend an incredible night exploring, discovering, and dreaming at a one-of-a-kind Overnight Adventure program, designed specifically for homeschoolers, ages 7-14. We will be sleeping underneath a 363-foot-long Saturn V Moon rocket.

Activities, which promise to excite and inspire you, will include dinner, hands-on challenges, a scavenger hunt, a questions & answer discussion with NASA personnel and more!. We will then sleep that evening underneath the 363-foot-long Saturn V Moon rocket; however, I am not sure how much sleep we will get!

In the morning, we will wake up for breakfast, return our belongings to our cars, and families can then re-enter KSC and spend the entire next day exploring the facility!

The curriculum of this program is designed specifically for youths between the ages of 10-14. Participants younger than 7 or older than 14 on the date of the Overnight Adventure will unfortunately not be permitted into the program. To ensure the experience is age-appropriate for all participants, exceptions cannot be granted.

You will need to carry your luggage from your parked vehicle, through Security, to our luggage transport. Bring no more than you can easily carry. There is space for each guest to stow one (1) piece of carry-on sized luggage (10”x 16”x 24”) and one plastic bag with a pillow and sleeping bag inside. All stowed items must be clearly labeled with your name. Please note: all luggage will be stowed together – there are no private lockers, so please do not pack valuables. If you bring additional items (such as a purse or backpack), you will need to carry them with you during the program.

For security reasons, all Overnight Adventure participants must park their vehicles in lot 4. All vehicles parked overnight must have a parking placard in their windshield. Parking placards will be distributed at 4:15 pm on the day of the program by the Overnight Adventure staff.  Note: overnight parking is $10 per car.
